FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. When can I/we file my/our tax return(s) with the IRS?

The IRS has delayed filing dates due to last minute tax law changes made by Congress to avoid the Fiscal Cliff. The first date you can file your Federal return is January 30th. Some households, such as those claiming residential energy credits or making certain other claims, will not be able to file until late February or early March.

2. Do I/we need to wait until I/we can file our return with the IRS to have them prepared?

Do I/we need to wait until I/we can file our return with the IRS to have them prepared? No. You do not need to wait to have your taxes prepared. We can prepare returns NOW! Then we will file your return(s) electronically as soon as the IRS will allow. Having your return(s) prepared early will allow you to avoid the rush at filing time.

5.  How soon can I/we get my/our refund?

You can get your refund as soon as IRS releases the money – usually in 8 to 21 days after they are filed. IRS has said most refunds will be released within 21 days, however they intend to review more returns before releasing funds this year due to identity theft issues they have experienced with false returns in the past few years.

6.  What kind of Identity Theft issues did the IRS experience? How will they know my return is legitimate?

These were typically returns that were filed by identity thieves who acquired personal information from other sources i.e.: medical offices, fraudulent tax preparers, death records, etc. The returns were usually filed online with the refunds being directly deposited into bank accounts or debit cards controlled by the thieves. One advantage with using Fiscal Tax is that we have been preparing tax returns, and have had a good relationship with the IRS, for 37 years. Unless you have been a victim of identity theft in the past, and have had your return flagged by the IRS, there should be no delay in receiving your refund in a timely manner.
